Appearance:
Ashen stands at nearly six feet tall, though his usual haunched over walk causes him to appear as though he were only standing at five feet. His weight fluctuates from around 120-130 pounds during his travels, often due to lack of food or long journey's.Personality:
His face is quite angular, and his nose is long and wide - though both of his eyes are shaped near perfectly, with no notable flaws. The eyes themselves are colored a deep blue, and can often be seen flicking from one space to another in his continued alertness. His beard extends down past his mouth, and is nearly a foot long - his hair reaches down in a mess past his shoulders, both his beard and hair is a graying-white color, and only reinforces the age he must be.
His body appears to be frail, but those who know him for any length of time know the old man to be anything but that, he travels long distances and has been involved in many a fight - the sword by his hip is not left there to idle while he wanders the world.
His clothes are not un-similar to those of other wizards in the world, it consists of a gray robe and gray wizards hat - the gray color might symbolize his neutrality in all cases. He wears a brown belt at his waist the holds a sword and sheath, the sword having a series of runes carved into it's surface. In addition to his clothing he also carries a staff with a knarled end - this staff is brought everywhere with him, and is often used when people witness his magic abilities.
Ashen is a very serious and neutral being, he takes whatever his duty is seriously, and gets on with things as quickly - but cautiously as possible. His seriousness can come across as him being a bit mean at times, or ignorant, though he has another side to him that people tend to see more often when they are around the old man as he preforms his magics in smaller towns.History:
Ashen does have a kind side, however. As mentioned previously, he stops of in villages to show off his magic - this is not done to boast or show his importance, but to bring joy and pleasure to those that he meets on his travels. His closer friends would know that he makes a very good friend, and is actually quite kind when his duty permits him to relax even a small amount.
All in all, it is very difficult to judge anything about the man, as he can be different in almost any situation. The only for sure thing is that those who need help when he is around can help on it if their intentions are good, and those who have dark hearts need fear him greatly, as his help will not come - but his magic might.
Ashen appeared approximately forty years previous to the events that are now taking place in Tala'maran. It is said that he is just as old now as he was back then, and that he hasn't aged a day. Since the moment he 'came into existence' he has spoke to those around him of a duty that he must fulfill before his life on this world can be completed.RP sample:
He started off with hunting down the remaining necromancers in the world, and silencing all of them, thereby ending a conspiracy to bring the dark lord back by ending his imprisonment early - though at the time he didn't know that they were largely successful in bringing down many of the barriers. After eliminating the necromancers, he was awarded with a birch wood staff, which he enchanted shortly after, and made it nearly invincible.
He spent the next year and a half fortifying the mages guild for a threat that no one saw, he trained nearly three dozen trainees and had them advanced to wizards in that amount of time - a feat that had never before been heard of. Just weeks after their advancement the world was set upon by an army of orcs, which destroyed a great many tribes and villages - but were driven away from the major towns by these trained mages - who would later make the basis for the Zacarume followers.
He held a leading position in the guild for several years, but retired his mastership to another mage when he sensed the barriers were falling to the prisons that held the dark lord - he set out across the world to gather the knowledge from all of the ancient libraries, and managed to visit some of the ancient elven libraries, most of which carried some of the answers that he would later require. Ashen then began to seek out those who would be able to help him with his next undertaking - he befriended a group of rangers who had been keeping an eye on the wilderness that bordered the dark lands. It was them who told Ashen that the orcs and foul beasts were beginning to stir, and they who spoke to Ashen of the first winged servant of the dark lord as it journeyed into the rest of the world. It was just a small creature at the time, but Ashen knew it would be used to scout out everything from the sky so that when it's master returned, he could wage war much more easily.
This venture alone cost Ashen five more years, of which he sped across the world, helping towns and villages along the way - and occasionally hosting shows with his magic - he gave hope to those who had none, and continued to inspire mages and wizards alike. After finally catching up to the creature, he found it had grown to at least ten times its original size, and could easily rival a dragon, the fight that ensued nearly wiped out an entire village in the mountains. Perhaps the most disturbing event was not the fact that the beast had grown so much, but that it was in fact totally sentient and intelligent like a dragon - and it spoke that there would be hundreds more like it eventually. Ashen finished the foul beast off, and began yet another quest. This particular quest caused him to disappear for the remnants of those forty years, and was simply assumed to have died from old age.
When all hope of his continued existence had faded, whispers began to spread that a cloaked wizard had been seen traveling rapidly across the world, and that strange occurrence followed him everywhere - it left odd fire-ball storms that shot upwards into the sky, and it appeared that he was preparing for something - something that he was rushing across the world for.
The old man stood on the edge of the hill, looking up into the clear star filled sky. It saddened him, what he was about to do - though he had no other choice. Whenever he attempted to open a portal such as this one, the dark one was able to access the portal at the same time - and even use his own magic to cast spells into it... But there was no helping that, he needed to open these portals to the other world. If he didn't this one would be destroyed completely.
He raised his staff into the air about a foot in front of and above his head, he began to motion with his other hand, which held some sort of stone - a rune. The air around him began to shimmer as he chanted into the night, and he could feel the energy building up as the tear between the worlds began to open. He winced as the first of the Dark Lords magic shot through - Massive fireballs shot straight up into the sky, and entered into a massive blue, glowing portal. Lighting arched across the spherical object in the sky - the entire thing simply hadn't been there a moment ago, it had just exploded out of nothing. He winced, and tried to force his own magic through.
Unsuccessfully.
He scowled, and dropped the rune, it was now useless since the portal was created. He opened his hand and began a deeper chanting, his voice echoed out across the plains, and the hill began to shake. As more of the fireballs began to arch up into the sky, he thrust his staff upwards - and a single blue colored fireball shot straight up. It shot faster than the others, and entered into the swirling portal. There was a slight crackle of energy across the hill, then silence apart from the roaring fire above him. He sighed, it would be necessary to keep the portal open so that whoever he needed to come through would be able to - he just hoped that this entire effort would be worth it, two worlds now hung in the balance.
